WunschMachine – Sensory, Site-Specific and Socially Rooted Performance Art

WunschMachine creates popular avant-garde – sensory, site-specific performance where art and everyday life weave together.

We believe in the power of performance to create meaningful connections: between people, across generations, and between individuals and the places they inhabit. That’s why our work happens outside the walls of the theatre – in graveyards, gardens, quarries, and neighborhoods – and always in close collaboration with local communities.

WunschMachine is performance as living conversation – a practice rooted in physical theatre, anthropology, poetry, and personal storytelling. Our works invite both audiences and participants to sense, listen, and co-create – using the body, the senses, and lived experience as material.

We insist that art belongs in the margins as much as in the center. That it can speak to schoolchildren, scooter-riding teenagers, churchgoers, and seasoned performance audiences alike. And that the ordinary – a moped, a dandelion, a patch of soil – can become something magical.

Our vision is to create encounters that leave a mark – on people, on places, and on how we understand each other and the world we share.

WunschMachine is driven by a deep curiosity for lived life and the spaces it unfolds in. We create artistic community-based encounters in Denmark and abroad – where no voice is wrong, and performance becomes a common ground between disciplines, emotions, and communities.

We work sustainably – both artistically and practically – creating long-lived works with recycled materials and flexible formats, designed to travel far and connect widely, with few resources.
